Dr. Michael Patterson, Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer is announcing 35 new cases of COVID-19 in the territory, 16 in Arviat, one in Cambridge Bay, one in Iqaluit, 10 in Rankin Inlet, one in Sanikiluaq, six in Pangnirtung, and one presumptive case in Coral Harbour. There are five recoveries today – four in Pangnirtung and one in Qikiqtarjuaq.
There are currently 274confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in Nunavut – 64 in Arviat, one in Baker Lake, two in Cambridge Bay, two in Chesterfield Inlet, 17 in Igloolik, 73 in Iqaluit, 23 in Kinngait, 21 in Pangnirtung, one in Pond Inlet, four in Qikiqtarjuaq, 55 in Rankin Inlet, one in Sanikiluaq and 10 in Sanirajak.
Cases in Coral Harbour and Whale Cove remain presumptive, awaiting confirmatory testing.
There have been 29 total recoveries in this outbreak.
“We know how to protect ourselves and others from severe illness from COVID-19 – wear your masks, get vaccinated, stay home as much as possible and maintain distance. But we need to use them together to ensure effectiveness,” said Dr. Patterson. “We’re all frustrated and tired after almost two years, but the safest way forward is to stay vigilant and focused, so we can get through this latest wave.”
