Pregnant Yukoners from across the territory with due dates in February 2023 or later can now apply to receive midwifery care covered under the Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan. All care, labour and delivery services will continue to occur in Whitehorse, with virtual options for routine appointments.

This publicly funded program provides Yukoners with an additional option for safe, integrated primary care during pregnancy, birth and postpartum. Registered midwives are licensed, insured and fully integrated into the Yukon’s health care system. The clinic will be fully staffed with four registered midwifes this fall.

The expansion of services to rural communities was made possible through close collaboration with nurses and physicians practising throughout the territory. The Yukon Midwifery Program will continue to work with local and national partners to fully integrate into the Yukon’s health care system and further expand midwifery care in the coming years.

More information on the application process is available at Yukon.ca/midwifery-program.
