NDP Critic for Indigenous Services and Indigenous-Crown Relations Lori Idlout (Nunavut) made the following statement:

“Yesterday’s announcement between Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and the Government of Canada is welcome and highlights the dedication of ITK to making sure that Inuit Nunangat is a priority in Ottawa.

While we welcome the government’s endorsement of the Inuit Nunangat Policy, it is imperative that the government follow through with the implementation of the policy. Far too often, the Liberals are keen to make big promises about making life better for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities only to delay action or break their promise.

As the NDP Member of Parliament for Nunavut, I’ll continue to represent our region in Ottawa and make sure our voices are heard in government. This includes making sure the government keeps its promise on implementing the Inuit Nunangat policy over the coming years.”
