Nominations Call for Inuit Uqausinginnik Taiguusiliuqtiit Board Members

Joanna Quassa was elected in the general election held on October 25 2021 to represent the constituency of Aggu in the 6th Legislative Assembly of Nunavut

The Honourable Joanna Quassa, Minister of Languages, is seeking two individuals to serve on the Inuit Uqausinginnik Taiguusiliuqtiit (IUT) Board of Directors.

“IUT is looking for individuals with significant knowledge and expertise in the Inuit Language, particularly with expertise in the Sanikiluaq dialect and with expertise in Inuinnaqtun,” said Minister Quassa. “These additions to the team will help increase capacity and provide support to the implementation of IUT’s mandate.”

IUT is responsible for making decisions about language use, development, and standardization. They also make recommendations to the public and organizations, as well as creating directives with which the Government of Nunavut must adhere to.

Interested individuals must have:

  • Excellent fluency in Inuktut;
  • Traditional or academic expertise concerning the history, diversity, status, use, teaching, development or needs of the Inuit Language, or the willingness and ability to consider and apply such expertise;
  • Personal knowledge concerning more than one regional variant or dialect of the Inuit Language or the willingness to consider and respond to such knowledge, and
  • The capacity to assist the IUT in performing its duties and exercising its powers.
