Once completed applications can be submitted via email to PublicWorksAdmin@sixnations.ca or in person to the Six Nations Public Works Office.

Funding is limited so community members are encouraged to complete and submit applications as soon as possible.

This is the first phase, future phases are under development for those households not currently eligible to apply.

Background:

Water is a basic human right and as a community we have a responsibility to each other to ensure that all members have access to safe drinking water. The Six Nations of the Grand River Water Connection Strategy establishes a path forward and the resources needed to provide access for all homes in the Six Nations community within 12 years.

The connections will be funded based on priority to ensure that the most vulnerable members of the community have access in a timely and responsible manner. The priorities consider:

• Number of children under the age of 18 living in the home at least 50% of the time.
• Number of elders living in the home
• Number of household members living with a chronic illness.
• Water Contamination
• Financial Barriers

The connections will be funded based on priority, however when future phases are implemented, you may be eligible to receive financial support such as a loan and reimbursement. At this time, Phase 1 is being implemented.

Phase 1: Connection costs of up to $10,000 for households with children under the age of 18 utilizing Jordan Principle funding.

Phase 2: Connections for all households with a variety of financial accessibility measures including, grants, loans and reimbursements.

• What is the catch?
  • There is no catch. Safe water is a basic human right and as a community we have a responsibility to each other to ensure that all households have access.

• Who is eligible?
  • All members on reserve are eligible, however connections are being constructed based on priority which includes:
    • Children,
    • Elders & chronically ill,
    • Adult members.

The intention is to have all homes that would like to be connected to the waterline, connected within 12 years.

Phase 1 prioritizes families with children living under the age of 18.

• What if my children live part time in my home and part time in another home?
  • If both homes are located on Six Nations, both homes should submit the application.

• What if I don’t own the home?
  • The homeowner will have to provide their permission for the connection.

• What if I don’t have children under the age of 18?
  • Phase 2 of the Connection Strategy includes elders, chronically ill and the Six Nation general public. However, feel free to submit an application now to help us plan for Phase 2.

• What if I have already paid for my connection? Will I be reimbursed?
  • Reimbursements will be considered in future phases and based on priority levels. Submit an application and you will be notified of your reimbursement when future phases are opened.

• How do I sign up?

• Do I have to pay for the $50 Hookup Fee?
  • No, this will be covered by the connection costs.

• Do I have to submit a water test?
  • A water test isn’t a requirement unless you are claiming contamination.  Please attach your water test results showing contamination to the application.

•  What if I want to use my own contractor?
  • We are presently working with First Nations Engineering to coordinate many qualified contractors to ensure the connections are completed as quickly and financially efficiently as possible. Once your application is processed and slated into the construction timeline, you will be notified of the timeline and who the contractor will be. You have the opportunity to request another contractor at that time. However, there will be no guarantee that the timeline will be the same, as the other qualified contractor may be working in another area of the community.

•  Where is the money for this coming from?
  • Phase 1 funds are Jordan Principle funds, and therefore geared toward children under 18.
  •  Future Phases may include government grants, the opportunity for businesses, foundations and individuals to contribute to ensure that we meet the target of having all Six Nations Community Members have access to safe water within 12 years.
